Currently there are no answers beyond the fabrications of religion.

In this context I want to consider the status of the human species as it finds itself inhabiting a planet in a seemingly infinite universe with absolutely no knowledge of why they are there and what they are trying to achieve.

In the Preface to his 1887 book The Genealogy of Morals the German philosopher and author Friedrich Nietzsche writes:

The sad truth is that we remain necessarily strangers to ourselves, we do not understand our own substance, we must mistake ourselves; the axiom, “Each man is farthest from himself,” will hold for us to all eternity. Of ourselves we are not “knowers” …

And herein lies our problem: the result is that, as much as we like to think we understand our motivations for doing the things we do either collectively or as as individuals we invariably seem to run into trouble, as evidenced by even a cursory examination of our blood-soaked history since we first began to record it and the troubled statusof the world today.

Frankly speaking, our species appears to be aiming toward self-annihilation and in addition, we appear to be hell-bent to take our planet with us …

And so we must continue to question ourselves and our history to get to the point of making sense of what our role in this cosmic venture might be and avoid the looming self-destruction that is staring us in the face if we don’t get our act together as a species that knows what they are about and act accordingly with whatever lies at the core of the very reason that we are here for, on this tiny planet, in this seemingly infinite universe..

In the meantime this blog will likely prove to be a meandering, repetitive – and at times a naive and confusing collection of personal thoughts and observations.

As to why I bother to put any of this on the internet, well, your guess is as good as mine. To paraphrase something Franz Kafka once said: it is not that anyone has asked me to, but that is immaterial.

Renowned physicist and Nobel Laureate Steven Weinberg once said that he more the universe seems comprehensible, the more it also seems pointless. … Similarly, one might make the observation that, as much as our sciences have discovered about the development … Continue reading →

["post-3874","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
