{"id":1532,"date":"2009-07-23T16:13:54","date_gmt":"2009-07-23T16:13:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/canitz.org\/?p=134"},"modified":"2009-07-23T16:13:54","modified_gmt":"2009-07-23T16:13:54","slug":"what-will-they-think-up-next","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essays.rsree.com\/index.php\/2009\/07\/23\/what-will-they-think-up-next\/","title":{"rendered":"What Will They Dream Up Next?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So there are folks in India and members of the Hindu religion, who &#8211; \u00a0at the occasion of the recent solar eclipse &#8211; gathered by the thousands to take a bath in the filthy and polluted Ganges river near the city of Varanasi in an attempt to gain some form of salvation from the cycle of life and death.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, this is about reincarnation \u2013 and wanting to be released from it. And the solar eclipse has some kind of cause and effect connection to this chain.\u00a0 It seems to me\u00a0 it would have been a lot simpler to break the supposed chain of life and death by giving up your belief\u00a0 in reincarnation &#8211; and you don\u2019t have to wait for a solar eclipse to just ditch that kind of metaphysical bamboozle \u2013 but clearly there is more to it than that.<\/p>\n<p>These kinds of traditional and otherwise unsubstantiated beliefs are the mental opium of many generations, rendering their adherents vulnerable to mass manipulation by the proponents of institutionalized religion, including the pretenders to the throne of\u00a0 Christ, or false prophets by any other name.<\/p>\n<p>The only notion of salvation that would make sense in the current context\u00a0 is to get clear of this pathetic streak of breathtaking gullibility running through the human race; a debilitating if not fatal flaw by any other name, \u00a0but seemingly so deeply embedded in our DNA that I&#8217;m not sure how we will ever get rid of it. Likely, it will require an upgrade of our evolutionary path in the gray matter department, and until such time we&#8217;ll have to just keep limping along.
